The WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (32-2, 30KOs) ignores being the underdog in his upcoming match against the undefeated WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather (42-0, 26KOs). Floyd Mayweather, who is already moving up from welterweight (147 lbs) to Junior Middleweight is slated to go head to head with Miguel Cotto for the WBA world title. Ortiz will the war to Mayweather

August 15, 2011

Mayweather vs Ortiz will face each other on September 17, 2011 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) has already come up with a strategy to try and beat undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 Ko’s) in their fight on September 17th at a still to be determined venue. Ortiz, 24, says he’s going to take the fight to Mayweather and try to turn it into a war. This no doubt has been attempted before, albeit with weaker and smaller fighters than Ortiz. Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton both attempted to take the fight to Mayweather and were easily beaten. The southpaw Ortiz is bigger and stronger than those guys, so perhaps he can take Mayweather’s hard pot shots and keep firing back to get inside on Mayweather. In an interview at the The Ring, Ortiz said “I’ll take him the same way I thought Oscar De La Hoya beat him, the way Jose Luis Castillo beat him, that’s take the war to his ass.” This would be more or less the same tactic that Ortiz used on beating former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto by a 12 round decision in his last fight in April. Ortiz went right at Berto and forced him to fight a long and protracted inside ward where Ortiz was eventually able to beat Berto, but not before being knocked down twice. To Ortiz’s credit, he was able to get up off the deck on two occasions and put Berto down twice as well, and eventually wear him down. If you are all excited to Watch Mayweather vs Ortiz then stay tuned on this blog for more updates.

Mosley said that puer power can take over

April 14, 2011

Shane Mosley opened his training camp in Big Bear, California to the media on Tuesday and declared he has the power to stop Manny Pacquiao. “My energy is great, at a very high level. I have a lot of power in both hands. I know Pacquiao will go right to the attack which is a great advantage for me. “I know how difficult this fight is. Pacquiao fires punches from all kinds of angles, is on his toes during late rounds and gives you different looks. “But pure power can take over all of that. I know I will be able to get good hard punches onto Pacquiao,” Mosley. Mosley fought Floyd Mayweather Jr.. May last year and lost a unanimous decision. He also figured in a sluggish draw with Sergio Mora last September. He expressed confidence he would beat Pacquiao in their May 7 (May 8 in Manila) fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mosley (46-6-1, 39 knockouts) built his case around the point of how he made his name as “Sugar” Shane, smashing smaller foes during his nine-bout run as a world lightweight champion, projecting that he’ll be able to duplicate similar strategies 12 years later against the dominant but smaller Pacquiao. Shane Mosley, the underdog, will also be all out and will surely train like never before. Mosley will stand toe-to-toe and exchange heat but Pacquiao will burn him with darting movement and blinding combinations. This will be power versus power. Due to highly expected Pacquiao versus Mosley clash, all tickets has been sold-out the fight held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao Will Begin Sparring Today

March 28, 2011

Trainer Freddie Roach said he’s looking forward to the first day of Manny Pacquiao’s sparring with Shawn Porter and David Rodela on Tuesday afternoon. The Pacquiao vs Mosley fight will happen on May 7, 2011 on MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach and Pacquiao were scheduled to train Saturday afternoon at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque, but the pound-for-pound king didn’t make it to workout. Team Pacquiao left its high-altitude training camp in the Pines City so Pacquiao can grace the annual Elorde Boxing Awards. Pacquiao and Roach were still at the event around midnight of Friday since they were requested by the Elorde family to stay for a while and watch some fights.

Pacquiao and Roach are staying in Baguio until Friday as they are scheduled to leave for the US this Saturday for the most crucial phase of the training. Another batch of sparmates await Pacquiao at the Wild Card in Hollywood, according to Roach, who is also tapping prospect Omar Henry. Roach said Mosley, despite him being a crafty fighter as well, can be outboxed, as shown by what Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto did to him.

Mayweather weathered an early storm and dominated Mosley en route to a lopsided decision in May last year, while Cotto scored a unanimous but close decision win over him in November 2007. Roach said Mosley’s strength surfaces whenever he is up against a fighter who comes at him and he knows very well not to fall into that trap. While Pacquiao is the type of guy who thrives in exchanging power blows, Roach said he will tweak his fighter’s style a little bit to suit their gameplan. Mosley is Tough and a big threat to Pacquiao

February 11, 2011

At 39, Shane Mosley can still pull the trigger. That’s why Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach are saying it’s not going to be an easy fight.nShane is a very durable guy. He has a very good chin,” said Roach, who knows a good match when he sees one. The multiple winner of the Trainer of the Year award said Pacquiao’s May 7 showdown with Mosley is not going to be a walk in the park because they’re hard to find these days. People said the fight against Margarito was going to be easy. Was it easy? You all saw what happened,” added the vacationing Filipino champion. Yes, Pacquiao has been on a roll, winning his last 13 fights. Most recently, he’d been up against the big boys, Oscar dela Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito. Mosley, who beat Dela Hoya twice (in 2000 and 2003), lost to Cotto in 2007, and crushed Margarito in 2009, has never been knocked out in his long and colorful career. The closest the pride of Pomona, California came to being stopped was against Vernon Forrest a very long time ago. He said it won’t happen against Pacquiao in Las Vegas. The celebrated trainer also told that Pacquiao won’t take Mosley lightly, and he wants eight full weeks of training beginning in March. People have started to liken Mosley to Bernard Hopkins, the 45-year-old boxer who just wouldn’t stop. He came off two early knockdowns to beat 28-year-old light-heavy Jean Pascal just weeks ago. “I demolished Margarito and then I knocked him out. Manny didn’t knock him out after I did and I don’t understand. This will be a great fight and it will be exciting. Everybody who has ever wanted to mix it up with me has gotten knocked out,” Mosley added. Pacquiao vs Mosley will face each other on May 7, 2011 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
